Structure of the course of study The course structure is based on two semesters (each of 13 weeks duration).

  • • 20 credit points of electives

To qualify for award of Graduate Diploma of Police Leadership a candidate shall accrue an aggregate of at least 80 credit points, including satisfactory completion of the core units noted below.

Admission Criteria

Domestic Students
Completion of an AQF Level 7 or above higher education qualification (or equivalent) in any discipline and at least two years relevant industry experience.

International Students
Completion of an AQF Level 7 or above higher education qualification (or equivalent) in any discipline and at least two years relevant industry experience.
International student applicants whose entry qualifications were obtained in an institution where English is not the language of instruction normally require an International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) of 6.5, with a score of not less than 6.0 in any of the four skill areas, or equivalent.

Note:: International students must hold a valid student visa. There are numerous conditions that apply to a student visa. In particular, a holder of a student visa may not work, paid or unpaid, for more than 40 hours in any fortnight during semester time. Special or Alternative Admission Arrangements
Special admission pathways are open for educationally disadvantaged applicants and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements for entry to the course, may be considered for alternative entry on the basis of higher education study equivalent to at least two units of study successfully completed at a registered Australian higher education institution or an overseas educational institution assessed as being equivalent by GLI.

Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Credit for previous learning may be obtained through the processes of articulation, credit transfer and recognition of prior learning or a combination of these processes. Requests for credit for previous study or RPL should be submitted with the Application Form. Students who have successfully completed accredited study or courses at recognised tertiary institutions may apply for a Transfer of Credit. A certified copy of an official transcript detailing studies undertaken must be submitted with the Credit Transfer and RPL Application Form. Professor Grant Pitman

Professor Grant Pitman is the president of the Global Leadership Institute. He has held senior leadership roles in government such as Chief Superintendent of Police and Director of Strategic Planning ICT in the Queensland Police Service;

  • Varied list of contributions to law enforcement, including disaster management, auditing and finance, organizational reform, education and human resources, and policy development
  • National, state, and regional levels of professional service, including the Ipswich Economic Forum, the Brisbane Airport Emergency Planning Committee, the National Emergency Communications Working Group, the National Police Drug and Alcohol Task Force, and the Police Education Advisory Council.

He has a Ph.D. and Master of Administration from Griffith University. He is a well-versed researcher and has published numerous articles and journals.

Dr. Jason Hartley

Jason Hartley is lecturer in criminology at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia. Jason is a former police officer with 23 years of experience, and has trained personnel for deployment in Timor Leste, the Solomon Islands, Iraq and Afghanistan. Jason specializes in, and has published on engagement with Muslim communities, Indigenous Polynesian approaches to rehabilitation and reducing recidivism, and Asian Organised Crime. Jason also completed a community internship in Hebron on the West Bank.
